A DIY tool to pick up Legos…
I live in a house of Legos. Well, not MADE of Legos, but it might as well be…we certainly seem to have enough to be up to that task.
And as much as I love Legos and all the creativity and imagination they inspire, the fine motor skills they develop, etc. I HATE stepping on those blasted things!
It’s not the big pieces that are the problem. It’s the LITTLE ones. The big ones can’t escape from our even the most cursory of cleanup efforts. But the sneaky teensy blocks… those tiny renegades hide. Lurking. Until a barefoot victim wanders by.
Then OUCH…swear word…expletive du jour. Followed by throbbing pain in the left arch for the better part of the next hour. Those little plastic punks pack a punch.

That’s why I made this little DIY tool. And if your feet need a break, you should make one too! Here’s the how-to in video form:
For this tool to pick up Legos, you’ll need
- lint roller
- THIS TYPE of paint roller
- paint roller extension pole (to save your back and knees 🙂
How to make your tool to pick up Legos
1. Remove lint roller tube from its handle.
2. Place lint roller tube onto paint roller cage.
It may be a tight squeeze (0urs is), but the lint roller tube is made of cardboard, so it’s a bit compliant and able to stretch.
3. Add extension pole.
If you’d rather NOT work on your hands and knees, then simply screw your extension pole onto the end of your paint roller.
4. Use your tool to pick up Legos and FIND those hidden little beasts!
You’re literally ready to roll! Note: this tool WON’T be effective for picking up BIG, hulking baseplates or long bricks and tiles.
It will, however, come in very handy for finding those little suckers that so easily hide from our Lego cleanup efforts only to later be sucked up by the vacuum cleaner, or stepped on by a poor, unsuspecting soul.
So carry on Lego builders! You engineers of the future! You budding architects and construction company CEOs. Build away, free from the fear of foot pain.
The parents of the world are counting on you. And counting our blessings we can now easily rid our floors of those beastly little bricks!

This is sooooooo clever!! It can also be used to pick up the itty bitty pointy Barbie shoes. I wish I had thought of this when my three Barbie-loving daughters were little!

Oh my gosh! You’re right about the Barbie shoes! Great idea Pat!!
