Instagram Shopping Using the Like To Know It App

What is the Instagram Shopping “Like To Know It App” (LikeToKnow.It, also known as LTK), and why should I care?

If you’ve been using Instagram for any length of time, then you’ve heard the buzzwords, “Shop your screenshot of this pic with the LiketoKnow.it app,” “Download the Like To Know It app to shop this pic” etc.

Have you felt like you’re not in on the big Instagram shopping secret? Today, I’m bringing you into the fold, friend…

I want you to understand what the heck LIKEtoKNOW.it is and how to use it, because when I tell you it has completely revolutionized the way I shop for my closet, and my home, I am not exaggerating even a little teensy bit. So let’s begin at the beginning…

What is Like To Know It (AKA “The LIKEtoKNOW.it app”)?

LIKEtoKNOW.it, or “Like to know it” is a mobile phone application, or “app”. It is made by a company called Reward Style. The LIKEtoKNOW.it app allows you to find sources for home, beauty & fashion products that you see online so that you can shop for those items quickly and easily from your phone, or home computer.

Why should I download ANOTHER app?

“What’s so great about this LIKEtoKNOW.it app? I really don’t want to download and have to deal with ANOTHER account/app/etc.” Those thoughts swirling in your head? This gal totally gets it! I felt the same way before I started using it!

But let me ask you this…have you seen a picture of an amazing dress online but had no idea where to find it? Ever scrolled past a duvet that would be PERFECT for your bedroom but you didn’t know what store carried it? Those are the kind of questions that can be answered instantaneously by using the LIKEtoKNOW.it app!

Does Like To Know It cost anything for me to use?

Nope. Completely free for you to use.

“How does Reward Style make money then?” you may ask. “How does Like To Know It work?” Reward Style is in the business of partnering influencers (bloggers, celebrities, etc.) and brands (Nordstrom, Anthropologie, Serena & Lily, etc) to market products, services, etc.

Meaning, when an influencer who works with Reward Style promotes a product from a Reward Style affiliated brand, the brand will pay Reward Style (and the influencer) a portion of sales for that item. But the buyer (you) doesn’t pay a penny more than you otherwise would have for the product! Make sense?

How do you use LIKEtoKNOW.it?

I did a 2-minute video to explain how to get rolling with the app, so check that out first. It seems easier to explain and understand via video. But if it goes too quickly or video is not your bag, I’ve written the step-by-step instructions below.

1. Get the LIKEtoKNOW.it app (now known simply as “LTK”)

The first thing you need to do is find and download the mobile app. If you have an iPhone, that means you go to the App Store on your phone. If you’re on Android, go to Google Play.

Click on the “GET” or “DOWNLOAD” button once you’ve searched for and found the app.

Once the app downloads and you click the LIKEtoKNOW.it icon to open the app on your phone, it will ask you to sign up. All this requires is your email address and creating a password.

“UGH, another password?” I know. It’s a pain, right? But TRUST ME, when you find all kinds of awesome new stuff by using this sucker, you won’t be sad you signed up!

2. Find your favorite influencers, and click “follow”.

On the bottom right of the app, there’s a magnifying glass. Click it, then toward the top of the page, you can either select “product search” or “influencer search.” Click “influencer search.”

Now start typing the names of some of your favorite Instagram accounts and influencers (like me @heathered_nest 😉👍). When their names appear, click “follow.”

3. SHOP!

Time to start shopping! You can do this BOTH from the LTK app AND from Instagram.

How to shop from the LIKEtoKNOW.it app: 

Once you’re following at least a few influencers on the app, it will create a home feed for you. When you click on a picture you like in the feed it will enlarge. Directly below the image will be all the products shown in the picture!

Click the item you like, and you’ll be sent to the store where you can shop it! As an example in the image below, I clicked on the pom pom duvet cover. As soon as I click “SHOP” I’ll be taken to the store where that duvet can be purchased.

To Shop Directly from Instagram:

The first thing to know about shopping directly from Instagram is that not every image is shoppable. This feature only works for influencers that are partners with Reward Style.

How do you know who is and who is not with Reward Style?? Influencers who have made a photo shoppable will include a note in their image description that tells followers an image can be shopped via LIKEtoKNOW.it. It will usually say something like:

“Shop your screenshot of this pic with the LIKEtoKNOW.it app”

“Shop my daily looks by following me on the LIKEtoKNOW.it app”

“Download the LIKEtoKNOW.it app to shop this pic via screenshot”

**When you come across a picture you like on Instagram, take a screenshot of it 📸**

Whenever you see an item you love on Instagram, screenshot it! If you’re not sure how to take a screenshot on your phone, google it. Usually, you have to hold a button (or two) down. On my iPhone, you hold the “home” and power buttons down simultaneously.

Once you’ve taken your screenshot, a notification will show up. Example below:

When that happens, you can click on the notification, or simply open your LIKEtoKNOW.it app, and your new shoppable screenshots will appear!!

If you have notifications turned off for the app, you can change that in your settings to turn them on. OR leave them off. In that case, you’ll just have to remember to go to the app after you’ve taken a screenshot of something you wanted to buy.

And that’s how to start shopping via Instagram and the LTK App!

Do you know what people mean when they refer to the “link in my profile” or “link in bio” in their Instagram photo captions??

Instagram allows one link to be placed in a profile, which is the top area of someone’s personal “homepage” on Instagram. Bloggers will often use this phrase to direct people to content is available on their website.

If they have a tutorial for the craft that’s pictured or a new post about a room makeover shown, etc. they’ll link to it in that spot!

The arrow is pointing to the “link in my bio”. Make sense? In order to go to the tutorials or info referenced in a caption, you click that link! Hope that helps!
