myQ Smart Garage Hub: myQ Setup – Here’s the Easy Process, Beginning to End!
Have you heard of myQ? How about in-garage delivery via Amazon Key?
Honestly, I hadn’t heard of either until a couple of weeks ago. But now that I know a bit about both, I’m excited to share information about the myQ Smart Garage Hub technology, and Key by Amazon in-garage delivery services.
Why? Because having tried them myself, I think this technology and service will be helpful to you this holiday season and beyond!
Before I delve too deep into details, we need to confirm two things –
Can you answer “Yes” to these questions
-
Does your home have a garage with a garage door opener?
-
Are you an Amazon Prime member?
OK, if you answered “yes” to both of those, then stick with me. I got some pretty amazing news for you.
Chamberlain Group (CGI), a leader in smart garage access technology, and Amazon recently joined together to offer free in-garage delivery service for Amazon Prime members!
If you didn’t catch the excitement and earth-shattering-ness of that statement the first time around, let me repeat. With a CGI myQ smart garage hub:
Amazon can now deliver your orders INSIDE YOUR GARAGE!
*And for no additional cost!
YES! That means:
- No more soaking, wet packages if they’re delivered in a downpour
- No more risk of your packages “walking away” before you have a chance to collect them
PLUS…
You can use the myQ App to remotely open and close your garage. And the myQ app will alert you any time your garage opens and closes. These features are so useful!
Rushed out the door and have that sneaking suspicion you left the curling iron on? You can let your neighbor into the house with your app, so she can check for you.
Let your dog walker in to take Rover out with the press of a button on your phone.
The technology of this product is pretty incredible. It offers us convenience and control of a key access point in our homes.
We can now open and close our garage doors for safe and easy access when needed, even when we aren’t at home.
Beyond that, this system can give peace of mind that our deliveries aren’t in jeopardy of going missing, or ending up sopping wet or caked with snow because of inclement weather.
Finally, the myQ Smart Garage Hub is easy to install and easy to use!
We’ll show you the simple DIY setup (it took us under 30-minutes to get the entire system operational, and we are NOT “techy” people). Then, we’ll show you how to link the myQ App to the Amazon Key App so you are able to choose the “in-garage delivery” option at checkout for your future Amazon purchases.
You can make sure Amazon offers the service in your area by checking here.
Let’s go over what you’ll need to setup your own myQ smart garage hub:
Here’s What You’ll Need for Your myQ Setup
- myQ Smart Garage Hub
- myQ app downloaded on your phone
- a compatible garage door opener (check here to see if yours is)
- a strong Wi-Fi signal in your garage
- ladder
- pencil
- drill with 5/32″ bit
- Phillips screwdriver
- safety glasses
- adhesive strips, screws/wall anchors and mounting bracket (all which come with your hub)
myQ Setup Procedure
Truthfully, all you need to do for your myQ setup is to choose one of these two options:
- Watch CGI’s easy to follow 8-minute video tutorial.
- After you’ve downloaded the myQ App, it will walk you through the step-by-step setup instructions automatically.
Find the app on the Apple App Store or Google Play. The icon will look like this ⤵️:
Once you’ve setup a new account by answering the standard questions (name, email, password) you’ll be sent an email to confirm your new account.
After logging in to the app, you’ll be guided through the setup process, which is very easy to follow…even for the tech-challenged 🤚🏻!
You’ll see pictorial and written prompts with each new instruction. The images above and below are screenshots from my phone as I went through the process of setting the system up here.
As far as the actual installation of the equipment, there are two basic pieces of hardware. The hub, seen above and below.
You’ll be using a mounting brace and two screws to secure the hub to the ceiling in your garage. The hardware, as seen below, is provided with your kit.
The hub plugs into a standard outlet and will be installed just a few feet from the garage door opener.
The other piece of hardware is a garage door sensor. This will simply be attached to your garage door using two adhesive strips that come with the kit. The sensor and adhesive strips are seen below. This sensor tells the myQ hub if your garage door is open or closed.
When prompted by the myQ setup instructions on your app,
simply stick this device to the back of your garage door using the adhesive strips.
The myQ App will then help you to pair it with your Wifi. It will test itself to ensure the system is working properly. You’ll get a “success” screen once all systems are go.
That’s all there is to it. Seriously, it should take you 30 minutes or less to get your myQ completely set up and running.
How to Setup Amazon Key In-Garage Delivery
Now that you’ve got your fancy smart garage working, you’ll want to get your in-garage delivery service with Amazon set up!
This is another easy process. I did it in under 5-minutes, and I’m betting you’ll be even faster 😉😘. Here’s what you do:
1. Download the Amazon Key App.
Head to the Apple App Store or Google Play again and download the Key by Amazon app. The picture below is how the icon should look when you’re searching for it ⤵️
2. Agree to terms & conditions, then follow prompts.
As usual, you’ll have to scan a contract and agree to the terms and conditions of using the app and service. Once you’ve done that, just as with the myQ App, you’ll be guided through the setup of the service.
Here are some highlights of the selections you’ll need to make:
- Select “set up garage” in the “let’s get started” screen
- Select “Link myQ account”
- If you have a camera for your system, you’ll be prompted through the setup process for that. We don’t use one, but they can be handy if you want to actually see your packages getting delivered.
- At the “Enable in-garage delivery” screen, click “Enable”
- You then will have the opportunity to take a picture of your garage (if it’s not obvious to the driver where it may be, or which door they should use) and enter any pertinent entry instructions
At this point, your set up is complete! You’ll see the success screen like the one pictured below⤵️
Now you’re ready for your in-garage deliveries with Amazon to begin! Next time you purchase something, when you get to the delivery options screen, you should see an option for “In-Garage delivery”. Simply select that option, and bring on the dry, safe home delivery!
The myQ App will let you know when your garage door opens and closes, and Amazon Key will send you delivery alerts.
I sure hope that this has been helpful to you! I think our smart garage will come in very handy over the coming months…especially in the lead up to the holidays!
