DIY bathroom remodel…

Want to skip to the bathroom reveal?
The vanities are up!! Thanks to some expert Ikea assembly from my brother-in-law Troy, of Nashville Flipped fame. I *should* tell you that because of his expert construction skills, it took almost no time at all.
Gotta love Ikea assembly projects (she says rolling eyes and biting tongue til bleeding).
These are floating, wall mounted vanities, which I totally dig. In a long, skinny room like this, I chose them because we wanted to do anything we could to help the room seem a bit larger and more open. Having them float gives a bit of an illusion that the room is a tad wider. Plus, there’s room for the kids step stools underneath…bonus.
Besides getting the vanities plumbed and mounted, week 5 has been all about molding. Molding and paint. We put up the crown, and here’s a shot it before painting.
We added a small piece of trim about 2″ below the typical stock piece of crown to help make it feel beefier and more substantial. Crown is kind of expensive no matter what, so I would rather spend a little more to make it stand out…otherwise, it kind of gets lost and wasted.
We painted the trim with a standard Ultra White semi-gloss paint+primer from Behr.
And finally, no more green in here. We’re going with a very light, very neutral color on the walls in this room. We’re just trying to make it look as large and open as we can.
There’s NO natural light in this room, which makes it dark, to begin with, so anything we can do to brighten it up, we’re doing. This color is Almond Cream by Behr, in an eggshell finish.
Even the old door and trim are in the midst of a re-paint. It’s coming along guys. And just as a reminder of where we started…here’s the before shot:
Almost there!!! Next week is the bathroom reveal! If we can stay alive through the homestretch. It may be touch and go.
