How to make a DIY stocking holder…
My crafty gene always turns on at one and only one time during the year. And that’s over the holidays. You know anyone like that?
And the latest Christmas crafty venture? A DIY stocking holder made with vintage skis!
*This DIY stocking holder project is sponsored by The Home Depot DIY Workshop*
PERFECT idea if you live in a condo, or a home without a chimney on which to hang junior and Susy Loo Hoo’s stockings with care…this little DIY will have you covered, so Santa will know EXACTLY where to leave that new puppy (insert parental worried emoji here).

How to assemble your DIY Stocking Holder
1. Screw plywood base to 4″x4″ post.
2. Attach finial to 4″x4″ post.
The finial will simply screw onto the 4×4 post.
3. Sand post.
We wanted to paint our post, so to prep it, we just gave it a super quick, light sanding with the palm sander.
4. Paint post, if desired.
After sanding, we spray-painted the post white.
We were able to get a couple of sets of vintage skis from Craigslist for $30. Truth be told, they aren’t the nicest looking, but if I come across some gorgeous old wood skis someday, I’ll happily swap these out.
5. Cut skis to length.
We removed the bindings, then we cut the skis to the desired length based on the height of our post. Since skis are built pretty sturdily (at least the newer varieties) you’ll likely need a special blade to cut them.
We ended up using a sawzall with a carbide-tipped blade, and that worked really well.
6. Screw skis to post.
Screw both sets of skis to the post to completely encompass your 4×4 post.
7. Install stocking hooks onto your DIY stocking holder.
Once the skis are attached to the post, it’s time to screw your chosen hooks to the skis/post.
8. Hang your stockings on your post with care…
in hopes that St. Nicholas soon will be there! Voila! We’re ready for Christmas Eve!
You could also use this creation for all kinds of wintery things…like scarves, the kids’ winter coats…
Or maybe to hang your cozy winter blankets?
It’s pretty fun and festive, I think. Want to make one too? You should! Here’s to a merry and bright holiday season for us all!
