Searching for the BEST All-Natural Air Freshener For Your Home? This is it…
Are you a spa junky? I’ve got my hand raised🙌! Maybe you don’t get to the spa all that often (who has the time, or the limitless expendable income, right?), but I bet you and I will agree that there’s nothing better than the smell of a spa.
I am always, always on the hunt for new and improved ways of getting that perfect spa-like smell at home.
I’ve shared a number of really simple, easy ways to “scentscape” your house, each using inexpensive, everyday items you probably already have at home as you can see in the image below⤵️:
And here’s a SUPER easy all-natural, homemade air freshener for your car, as well!
All of these DIY deodorizer ideas work great. They are all a bit different, but one thing that is the same is that they are all NATURAL. I do not use any of the standard commercial plug-in-style room fresheners that are commonly available in the supermarket.
Not only do I find their scents way too strong and unnatural, but they also have chemicals in them that I prefer not to have in my home if I can avoid it.
Not trying to get all preachy, because I am far from perfect as far as this kind of stuff goes. But if I can find an easy option that is more natural AND healthy for my family, I will take that option in a heartbeat!
You can grab all the supplies for this DIY (minus the essential oils) at your local Dollar Tree or Dollar Store. And I’ve linked to sources for oils if you’re on the hunt!
DIY Natural Air Freshener Supplies
- Dollar-Tree generic plugin air freshener (here’s another option if you don’t wanna run to the store)
- Cotton Swab (also available at Dollar Stores)
- Favorite essential oil(s). Below are some options I gathered for you. I use the floral oils in my home a lot. Click on any of the oil sets below to learn more or shop:
Dollar Tree stocks the plugin canisters without the oil refills included, which is really nice. They’re just a dollar, and no need to buy and trash any of the grody chemically plugin scents.
They’re usually stocked in the aisle with all the other cleaning products.
As far as the oils go, there are TONS of brands and options out there. I’m personally not wed to any particular brand, but for the purpose of deodorizing and freshening the smell in my home, I definitely have some favorite scents. These include:
Some favorite oil sets are linked up in the supply list to some great sets that include many of these scents, so check those out if you’re on the hunt for some good oils to try!
This short video will show you all you need to know in order to make one of these amazing little plugin air fresheners immediately⤵️:

Make The Best Plugin Air Freshener For Your Home:
1. Apply Essential Oil To Cotton Swab.
You only need a tiny amount of essential oil to deodorize a room. I put about 2-3 drops of essential oil on each end of a cotton swab.
2. Snap/Bend Cotton Swab in half.
In order to fit your cotton swab into your plug-in oil warmer, you’ll likely need to snap it or bend it in half.
3. Place Cotton Swab inside the plug-in.
With the oil applied to the cotton swab and the swab folded in half, all that is left to do is to insert the swab into the oil warmer.
There is a hole inside each warmer for the diffusing end of the plug-ins to sit inside. This is where you will place your cotton swab.
Because of the size of the cotton swab, it should stay inside the hole, even when upright. If not though, simply flip the plug-in upside down so that gravity holds your cotton swab inside the warming chamber.
4. Plugin your new, homemade air freshener and enjoy your fresher smelling space!
Now simply plug your air freshener into an outlet! Your home will be smelling fresher in no time!
5. Refresh or change essential oil as needed.
Depending on the size of the space you are using your DIY air freshener in, you may need to re-apply more essential oil every few days to once weekly.
Want to change scents? No problem. Just grab another cotton swab and your new oil.
And that’s IT! Easiest, best plugin air freshener, ever! I hope you enjoy this little deodorizer hack.
