Lighting affects the appearance of any and all paint colors. Here’s a general idea of how lighting will impact Krypton’s appearance.
- North-facing light – cool northern light brings out the coolness in any color. Krypton will look less blue as its gray undertones come forward.
- South-facing light – bright and warm southern lighting will neutralize the coolness of this hue.
- East-facing light – yellow morning light will tone down the color’s coolness in the morning, but then it will make a comeback in the afternoon when the light is to the west.

Just looking at paint is too subjective for a good evaluation, so we need to look at some basic information to add an objective means of evaluation.
Light Reflectance Value (LRV) is a number between 0 and 100 that’s assigned to each paint shade based on the amount of light that hue reflects. A lower number means the color reflects less light and a higher number means it reflects more light.
The LRV of SW Krypton = 52
Krypton sits in the medium range. It has plenty of saturation to contrast well with white trim but is also light enough that very bright light will wash it out.

Comparing similar shades side-by-side is a great way to get more information on how colors read. This can be especially helpful when looking for a color’s undertones. Here’s how SW Krypton looks against three other similar shades.
Sherwin Williams Krypton vs. SW North Star
With an LRV value of 64, North Star looks quite a bit brighter than Krypton does. Despite that difference, the colors look similar, although North Star has a little less gray.
Sherwin Williams Krypton vs. Upward
Sherwin Williams Upward has an LRV of 57, which makes it a little lighter than Krypton. When compared with Krypton, Upward reads more blue for a light, airy, soft color that doesn’t disappoint.
Sherwin Williams Krypton vs. Jubilee
These two colors look very similar to each other, and the main difference is in the saturation level. With an LRV of 45, SW Jubilee is noticeably darker than Krypton, but they have similar levels of gray undertones.
