Don’t pack up that Christmas tree! It can become a Valentines tree! Yes, that’s a thing…
Listen up February. Me and you are NOT friends. January? I like you even less.
The winter months. My skin is dry. The ‘ol sinuses are full of gunk. My winter weight gain program is in full swing. Which means my jeans don’t fit. And that’s an automatic bad mood right there.
The kids have cabin fever. I have “adult” cabin fever. Meaning, I want to leave my housebound-crazed kids and escape TO a cabin…with a stocked liquor cabinet immediately.
Please tell me that you sometimes feel the same about these dark, dank, cold, claustrophobic days of winter? I think the biggest problem is that December is so wonderful.
The carols, the cookies, the all-Christmas-all-the-time TV channels, and radio stations…I love it all. Then, when it comes to an abrupt end, and January rolls in, happiness seems to roll on out.
So I try to make the Christmas season last.
Here’s what happened last year when we attempted to keep our Christmas tree up until February. Nope. Plan A definitely was a fail.

Turn a Christmas tree into a Valentines Tree
This year, I went for plan B.
This sweet little white flocked tabletop tree above is one of the things we decorate our daughter’s room with each Christmas. And instead of putting it away this year, I have decided to defiantly KEEP IT UP.
It’s now officially a “valentine tree.” YES. It’s a thing.
Recommended Supplies for your Valentines tree
- mini white flocked tabletop Christmas tree (or any artificial tree of choice)
- pink or red feather boas (check your local Dollar Tree, too)
- heart shaped garland
- conversation heart “ornaments” (paper cutouts)
- one-hole punch (to punch hole in heart “ornaments” for hanger)
- fishing line, butcher’s twine or ribbon (for making tree hangers for heart ornaments)
How to Decorate a Valentines Tree
1. Remove Christmas ornaments.
When you’re ready, and no judgement here about when that is…remove and store your Christmas ornaments.
2. Start decorating your valentines tree with garland.
I love using unconventional materials as garland. And for your valentine tree, I’d recommend going with the soft, feathery look of…boas! I use them every year to give my Christmas trees a snowy look without the messiness of flocking them.
You can find feather boas at the Dollar Tree, but even better fluffier ones online.
I add some heart garland after the boas, which really help give the tree a valentine’s day theme look!
3. Make and hang Valentines ornaments on your tree.
Use any heart Christmas ornaments you may already have, and then grab inexpensive paper conversation hearts from Dollar Tree or online.
Simply punch holes in the conversation hearts, and string them with your fishing line, butcher’s twine or ribbon of choice.
4. Keep the festive holiday tree idea going…all year long!
Next up? Shamrocks for…you guessed it! A St Patricks Day tree. Followed soon after by Easter ornaments.
I am determined to keep this going ALL. YEAR. Every single holiday shall be celebrated with this stout little tree.
If I was ballsy enough, I’d keep the outdoor lights up year-round, too. But I’m not that brave.
Instead of suffering the public shaming from neighbors, I’ll keep my year-round Christmas spirit bottled up inside the house. At least this year.
Next year, who knows…maybe our inflatable outdoor Santa and lights will be proudly displayed even on the steamiest of summer days. Ooohhh I relish that thought.
But this sweet little Valentines Day tree will tide me over for a bit.
