Don’t pack up that tree! It’s a Valentine tree! Yes, that’s a thing…
Listen up February. Me and you are NOT friends. January? I like you even less.
The winter months. My skin is dry. The ‘ol sinuses are full of gunk. My winter weight gain program is in full swing. Which means my jeans don’t fit. And that’s an automatic bad mood right there.
The kids have cabin fever. I have “adult” cabin fever. Meaning, I want to leave my housebound-crazed kids and escape TO a cabin…with a stocked liquor cabinet immediately.
Please tell me that you sometimes feel the same about these dark, dank, cold, claustrophobic days of winter? I think the biggest problem is that December is so wonderful.
The carols, the cookies, the all-Christmas-all-the-time TV channels, and radio stations…I love it all. Then, when it comes to an abrupt end, and January rolls in, happiness seems to roll on out.
So I try to make the Christmas season last…

Here’s what happened last year when we attempted to keep our Christmas tree up until February. Nope. Plan A definitely was a fail.
This year, I went for plan B.
This sweet little white flocked tabletop tree above is one of the things we decorate our daughter’s room with each Christmas. And instead of putting it away this year, I have decided to defiantly KEEP IT UP.
It’s now officially a “valentine tree.” YES. It’s a thing.
I took the Christmas ornaments off of it, and substituted them for some sweet little Valentine “ornaments”…made from inexpensive paper cutouts and ribbon.
And threw some heart garland on there for good measure.
Next up? Shamrocks. Followed soon after by Easter “ornaments”.
I am determined to keep this going ALL. YEAR. Every single holiday shall be celebrated with this stout little tree.
If I was ballsy enough, I’d keep the outdoor lights up year-round, too. But I’m not that brave.
Instead of suffering the public shaming from neighbors, I’ll keep my year-round Christmas spirit bottled up inside the house. At least this year.
Next year, who knows…maybe our inflatable outdoor Santa and lights will be proudly displayed even on the steamiest of summer days. Ooohhh I relish that thought.
But this sweet little Valentine tree will tide me over for a bit.
