Easy Eco-Friendly Christmas Gift Tags From Vintage Christmas Bulbs…

Here’s a quick, fun, and eco-friendly DIY Christmas gift tag idea! Remember those Christmas bulbs your parents put outside when you were a kid? You’re going to go find some of those in their attic, and pilfer those to use as Christmas gift tags this year…

The reality is, those old Christmas bulbs are just about the biggest fire hazard known to man.

Literally, it’s probably safer to smoke a cigar while filling your car up with gas than it is to use those old school lights on a Christmas tree. Or anywhere, for that matter.

Exaggeration? Definitely. And don’t go near any gas stations with cigars, FYI. But the point is, as Christmas lights, those huge, old lights are just no good.

Today’s versions could be left on all day and night without even coming close to getting hot. MUCH safer, AND more energy-efficient, fo-shizzle.

So what to do with the boxes of those colorful gems you found in mom and dad’s attic? Trash them? Heck no.

We’re going to repurpose those babies in a really fun and festive way.

supplies needed for these Christmas gift tags:

• vintage Christmas bulbs (if you don’t already have some, scour local antique shops, thrift stores, or my fave place for vintage finds online)
• Sharpie marker, fine tip chalk pen or Paint pen (to write the names)
• some type of ribbon/butcher’s twine to tie bulbs onto your packages (this is my go to)

How to use vintage Christmas bulbs as gift tags:

Welp, kids, there just isn’t too much to explain here.

You take a bulb, you tie it on your gift as you would any gift topper or gift tag, and then write your name on the bulb with a Sharpie,

Or a paint pen or chalk pen. Chalk pens are great because after you’ve used the bulb, people can wipe off the names, and reuse them AGAIN!

Note: the lights that you see lit up above (and below)? Those are NEW dollar store Christmas lights. I wouldn’t plug in those vintage lights if you paid me 😂

One more quick, unique wrapping idea while we’re at it…try using battery-operated lights as “ribbon”⤵️!

I like to tie the vintage Christmas bulbs onto packages with red and white butcher’s twine, but you could use any type of ribbon you like.
