A secondhand, vintage settee gets a toile makeoverโฆ
Ahhh, toileโฆit does the heart good.
Just saying “toile” makes one feel fancy. And I’m so fancyโฆyou already knowโฆ(SUCH a good jam).

Anywho, I was shopping for a settee for our guest room. So fun, right?! TWO fancy words in ONE post. Here’s who I found.

This little nuggetโฆlike, pure GOLD nugget. As in, “I’m so fancy, can’t you taste this gold?” And that was EXACTLY the problem. This poor little gem was WAAAY too goldโฆnot only could you taste it, you kinda were choking on it and wanting to spit it back out.
So, I fixed her. First, she got a paint job. The gold base was actually perfect. I used Annie Sloane’s Old White, and high grit sandpaper to reveal some of the gold under the white paint. Then she got a couple of coats of clear wax.
Enter the toile.
We re-upholstered this little lady in some lovely blue/white classic toile. Sadly, I can’t find the particular fabric I originally used ANYWHERE anymore, but here is a link to a similar blue/white toile fabric.
I bought 5 yards (and could have gotten by with 3) of this fancy fabric. And at less than $7/yard, I was feeling fancy AND smart!

Our guest room is reaching for a pastoral, rustic glam appeal, and this fabric was just another way to bring in that classy french country feel.

Do you like the caning? Coupled with some flow blue plates inherited from family, and other rustic elements, like the barn wood ceiling, I think this settee sets the room off and helps the space really work.

I even had enough fabric leftover to sew this burlap/toile runner for our dining room.

I'm visiting from your feature at Miss Mustard Seed! I have blue toile wallpaper in my bathroom! Love it so much. I'm also excited to see you're a new blog. I've been wanting to start a blog and…well, I was thinking, I've missed the window, I'm too late to grow a following, it's not even trendy anymore. You're giving me courage! Love the settee! Beautiful room! Annette
