There’s nothing better than giving handmade gifts on any occasion and Christmas is maybe the most perfect time of year to create something heartfelt.
And what is more meaningful than a child’s handprint shapes or little feet made into a keepsake that can be enjoyed for years to come?
We’ve included fun craft ideas like a handprint angel Christmas card, a popular Grinch handprint Christmas stocking, a handprint reindeer ornament, and more!
Our family has an annual tradition of creating at least one handprint ornament craft every Christmas season. It’s a great tradition to start because it’s a way for us as parents to freeze time, and hold onto a small piece of our kids as the years press forward.
The good news is you only need a few inexpensive craft supplies to make these simple Christmas DIYs.
Here are the most commonly used supplies…
Common Supplies for Handprint Crafts
Christmas Handprint Canvases
1. Christmas Cardinals Canvas

5. Sweet Lil Snowmen Handprint Ornament
Have your little one cup a plain ornament (color of your/their choice) in a hand painted white.
Then adorn their snowy fingers with carrot noses, ribbon scarves, and pom pom hats. This is an ornament that I cherish so much!!
6. Christmas Tree Handprint Ornaments
Who’s the happiest Christmas tree? Me, Me, Me (yes, I’m trying to riff on that fun holiday song…not sure it’s working). But this adorable Christmas tree ornament idea is sure to make the recipient happy, even if it’s YOU!
Bonus…you don’t have to be an artist to make this one look amazing. If you can paint dots, and draw a star, you’re ready for this one!
7. Santa Handprint Ornament
To make this special Santa, all you need is some acrylic paints, sharpies, and an ornament (color of your choice, but I’d recommend silver, gold, or green).
Make sure to note your child’s name, and the year the ornament was made…I typically just write this with a sharpie on the ornament…you can see a bit of that in the picture below.
8. Baby Handprint Clay Ornaments
Make salt dough handprint ornaments with this easy salt dough recipe. Add a little pinch of glitter for an extra bit of sparkle.

9. Handprint Rudolph
Who’s our favorite reindeer of all? Your baby’s handprint Rudolph, of course!
This is another simple idea, this one a handprint reindeer Christmas ornament…again with your lil’ one’s handprint pointing down toward the bottom of the ornament. Good ornament colors for this idea are white, silver, and green.
10. Angel Handprint Ornament
If I had to do this one over again, I’d use a sharpie to make the face, and put little parentheses-shaped eyes, and a little smile rather than the “o” expression…I was trying to make the angel look like she was singing, but I didn’t execute it perfectly ;). Oh well, we do what we can do, right?
This one is three handprints…two wings, and one for the body.
