Our daughter’s DIY pink bedroom makeover …
We started with a simple beige box. What I SHOULD have done was simply install padding on the walls, and isolate myself in said beige, padded box. But no, I had BIG plans. My daughter had even BIGGER plans, and her plans were all PINK. I took those pink bedroom plans, and raised them 6.
Six WEEKS to be exact.
Now sure, there are people who took on this “one room challenge” and made over their kitchens. Or their bathrooms. Or even TWO spaces in six weeks. But those people are go-getters. I don’t pretend to fit in that category. Here at The Heathered Nest, we like to take our jolly old time. We like to nap.

Pink bedroom sources:
We like to take coffee and donut breaks…a lot of them. We like to goof off and pretend to be working when, secretly, we are binging on Netflix. Actually, that’s a lie. We’re too cheap to pay for Netflix.
And we are CERTAINLY too cheap to pay anyone to help us with ANYTHING that deals with remodeling or home improvement. We’d rather suffer. And suffer we did. But now, this pink bedroom beast has been slain.

Here’s where we started ⤵
Just a box. Add to that box this bamboo desk (below) we scored on Craigslist.
Add to said box and bamboo desk a lot of blood, sweat and tears…six weeks later, here’s how it all turned out!
She wanted pink. I wanted to feel like I wasn’t wading through a bottle of Pepto. And this is where we settled.
Most of the pink was introduced as a big DIY ceiling treatment. We installed circular moldings and a medallion around our vintage tole chandelier. We painted underneath the moulding a gutsy “Razzle Dazzle” pink (Ben Moore).
The ruffled curtains create a visual divider in the space, and behind them, we created a nook for her bed, some built-in shelving, and her desk area.
Lots of vintage and meaningful odds and ends fill her room. An antique lamp from my Grandmother, as well as Beatrix Potter books she gave me when I was little.
Mason jars she used to can make for beautiful storage containers with a bit of history behind them as well.
For the most part, I used inexpensive items and simply embellished them to fit into the space. Pretty pleated ribbon was added to her lampshade.
Storage is at a premium in this room. We added wire shelving inside the closet doors for book storage.
And in her nook, we did some DIY built-ins for books and other “treasures” like more of Grandma’s mason jars.
We added a swing-arm sconce for a reading light in her nook. That light and the vintage tole petite chandelier were eBay finds.
Just used a simple, white shade on the sconce, and added that pleated ribbon trim to match her desk lamp.
The roman shades (AKA the bane of my existence) were made from inexpensive white denim and trimmed with grosgrain ribbon. We chose white denim for both the shades and her DIY tufted, upholstered headboard not only because of the price, but also the durability.
Her duvet was made from 2 flat, white sheets, and pom-pom trim. The bottom has simple grosgrain ribbon ties. Altogether, it cost about $10-12 to make.
On one side of the room, we upcycled one of the many builder-grade vanity mirrors we inherited when we bought this house. We framed it out, as we have with several others in the house, to give it some new life.
A big ol mirror like this in a smaller room helps make it feel a bit more open.
On the opposite wall, we created the gallery wall with frames of wallpaper (PIP by Eiffinger). I LOVE wallpaper…and the bolder the print, the better.
But I wanted something in here with a bit less of a commitment, and I felt that it would be way too overpowering if hung on the whole wall.
So this is where we landed. The frames were all thrifted, and spray painted white, to give them a bit of uniformity. The walls, by the way, are painted Simply White by Ben Moore.
This table has moved with us from house to house, and been in a couple of different rooms. It started in our daughter’s old room.
Then it lived in our oldest son’s room for a while…
And now it has migrated once again.
I just paint the chairs to match the space. Another inexpensive fix.

And there you have it. Our pink bedroom makeover is complete. And now, my couch, a cozy blanket, some coffee and a donut (or maybe a couple) are calling my name.
