Springtime – In Living Color.
Yep. Not only is that the perfect theme for this tour. But it is also reminiscent of your favorite early 1990s show and mine, In Living Color.
OK, so maybe top 5 early 90s shows? I realize we can’t leave Seinfeld, Friends and 90210 hanging.
Let’s start the tour!

Wanna know a secret? Ever wonder why these "home tour" type posts never show you the WHOLE house? It's because blogger's homes are probably the messiest homes you'll ever see.
For real. We just know how to hide our mess better than most, perhaps.
Behind every beautiful home tour picture...there's a closet ready to bust at the seams and spew our clutter out everywhere for the world to see.
So with that in mind, guess how bloggers decide which rooms to share in home tours?
The cleanest ones 😂.
Sidenote: I don't think I've ever shown the view from the kids' bathroom into the rest of the house before. It's right across the hall from our oldest's bedroom (which was way too messy to photograph).
His bedroom is cool though. If you have a little one that loves trains, you should check it out 🚂.
In my home, I usually choose the smallest spaces to feature. Because they're the easiest to make a quick pass through, dusting surfaces that will be visible on camera with my shirt sleeve, stashing junk in drawers and kicking clutter into closets.
As you can see, clean or not so clean, our home in spring (and year-round, really) is quite colorful.
We don't shy away from colorful spaces here...
In fact, we steer straight toward color. Our bedroom is actually one of the least colorful spaces in our home. The palette is mostly blue and white in this space. It's calming. The wall color is "Blue Opal" by Behr.
Here's the current view from our bedroom into the master bathroom. That's the room in our home we most recently completed. And it was a helluva project. 100% DIY, and 200% draining of energy and budgetary resources 😅.
But it's done now, and we love it. It's another space that has a relatively muted palette of black, white and gray. But where it lacks color, it makes up for it with pattern. We've got pattern layered upon pattern but done in a way that's not jarring to your eyes (at least I hope!).
The pebble tile, wallpapered ceiling, plaid accent tile in shower (which is mirrored in a transom window above the linen closet), herringbone faux fabric floor tile and (3) distinct tile patterns (brick, basketweave, and herringbone) add up to a LOT of patterns in one space!
Here's a shot of the opposite side of the room. We've got our antique door blinged out with a super quick & easy spring DIY Peeps wreath. I had that transom above the door custom-made to mirror the accent tile in the shower enclosure.
Here's a decent closeup of that floor tile. It's from a post I wrote about Benjamin Moore's "Chantilly Lace" white paint. It's one of their most popular colors, and it's part of a new series I've started on paint colors.
Speaking of tile, we LOVE mixing patterns as we install tile! I wrote a post about subway tile patterns to make it easier for you to pick and pair your own.
And DEFINITELY grab this free guide about how to mix patterns in your home! It's short, sweet, and will help you feel pattern-confident instead of pattern-paralyzed!⤴️
Go to spring decorating moves? A few fresh flowers...
Adding a few fresh flowers here and there is one of the best ways we welcome spring in our home. Not an earth-shatteringly original idea. But one that can usually bring a smile, right?
Scottie's makes it simple to usher in the seasons, as well. They have beautiful seasonal lines of tissues they release. Makes it easy to keep a necessity like tissues handy and accessible instead of feeling like you have to hide them.
And we all know that's especially important in the spring for all that hay fever and awesome allergies that come with the change in weather!
Finishing up the tour of our master suite, let me take you into our dressing room. Above you can see a little dormer alcove that used to be a catchall for junk.
It's one of those awkward spaces that are sometimes hard to use in a productive way.
Do you know what I mean? Do you have any spaces like that?
So we turned this space into a little vanity area and space for storing and displaying my favorite bags and shoes.
If you have a spot you'd like to display some of your heels, we wrote a wall mounted shoe rack tutorial, so check that out!
And with that, our in living color and pattern-happy spring tour is complete. I'll leave you to the fly girls and with this inspirational (paraphrased) quote by your favorite rapping sage, and mine, Heavy D (& the Boyz),
"You can do whatcha wanna do, (but it's better if it's) in living color."
Now head out, friends! Time for us to spy inside the rest of these gorgeous and colorful spring home tours! The next stop is at Paige's house, and she's sharing 6 ways to help you decorate for spring! Have fun!
